About Jeff Ingersoll

For many bluegrass guitar players, innovation looks like a variation on Lester Flatt’s timeless G-run or a new take on the iconic body of work created by Tony Rice. Not so for Jeff Ingersoll, an up-and-coming guitarist whose genre-bending playing fluently navigates myriad musical and cultural boundaries while steadfastly refusing to be confined by any of them. Ingersoll cut his teeth playing traditional music in the Tug Hill region of upstate New York before delving into progressive acoustic music, first with his brother, Aaron, and later as a student in East Tennessee State University’s world-renowned traditional music program. Drawing from a deep well of influences ranging from the classic bluegrass of his childhood to the jazz, swing, Celtic and pop music he discovered during his tenure at ETSU, Ingersoll has earned accolades for his work with a broad spectrum of performing ensembles. In 2013, he secured first place in the Norwich Bluegrass Festival Band Competition as a member of the Ingersoll Brothers. Most recently, Ingersoll has performed as a member of the bluegrass fusion group The Honey Chasers and in an eponymous quartet, performing songs from his recently recorded album “Peering Through the Bars.”

Peering through the bars

Ingersoll’s first release with Bee Hive Records in Johnson City, TN, “Peering Through the Bars” effortlessly blends a multitude of styles that feels at once both spontaneous and informed. Drawing from a distinct array of influences, the album leaps from the timeless writings of Robert Frost’s “Draft Horse” to the poignant lines of Pablo Neruda, from the snowy hills of his childhood in upstate New York to his adopted home of Johnson City. With the help of a stellar group of guest musicians including Cameron Owens, Meade Richter, Danny Stewart Jr., Brandon Green, Dave Eggar and more, Ingersoll offers a glimpse into the roots of America’s folk vernacular as he takes a flying leap forward for modern acoustic music. “Peering Through the Bars” is available now on a special edition CD through beehiverecordsmusic.com and digitaly through Amazon, iTunes, CDBaby and all other major digital distributors.
